2024 Southam Handicap Chase Betting Odds at Cheltenham racecourse

Sunday, 17 November 2024

The Southam Handicap Chase looks like an exciting race and there are twelve runners set to line up, with customers placing each-way bets on this Cheltenham encounter. There could be a lively battle over the thirteen fences, with Petit Tonnerre having produced some strong performances this season and this horse is owned by JP McManus.

Calico won on his last outing and Dan Skelton looks set to have a strong Cheltenham this weekend, with Libberty Hunter having produced some smart performances last season and it will be interesting to see how he shapes up here. Matata has the potential to go well for Nigel Twiston-Davies and he was second last time out.

2024 Southam Handicap Chase Tips

The majority of the field can win the Southam Handicap Chase on Sunday, with Petit Tonnerre bidding for a first victory of the season. The six-year-old finished second out of seven runners at Aintree last time out, although it’s been a long time since the horse registered a victory, finishing out of the places at Cartmel and Aintree.

Calico looks to have bold claims, with the eight-year-old one of the top-weighted horses in the field although we saw an impressive win at Cheltenham last time out. Sent off at odds of 3/1, he was able to beat Matata by a neck, although the previous outing saw the horse pulled up at Kempton Park.

Libberty Hunter returns to make his seasonal debut and Evan Williams trains a runner who was third out of ten runners at Aintree last time out. It was a splendid performance considering the horse was sent off at 33/1, with the charge previously performing well in the Johnny Henderson Grand Annual Challenge Cup.

Matata has the potential to build on that second-placed finish behind Calico and has to stand an each-way chance of securing a victory. The horse finished dead last at Aintree in April before that strong effort at Cheltenham, with Gunsight Ridge a talented nine-year-old who could go well for trainer Olly Murphy.
