2025 Great Yorkshire Handicap Chase Betting Odds at Doncaster racecourse

Saturday, 25 January 2025

Doncaster Racecourse hosts the Great Yorkshire Handicap Chase on Saturday 25 January, with The Changing Man hoping to follow up consecutive runner-up spots with a victory. Forward Plan is also searching for his first victory of the campaign, with Anthony Honeyball training a runner who has been fourth and third this term.

Frero Banbou has claimed a win this term and the Venetia Williams-trained ten-year-old is worthy of contention, while Tightenourbelts has to be strongly considered after recording solid successes for Emma Lavelle in the previous two races. Trelawne and Git Maker are other contenders worthy of consideration.

The Changing Man has recorded back-to-back runner-up successes this season and perhaps the Joe Tizzard-trained runner is the one to back when it comes to the Great Yorkshire Handicap Chase. We’ve seen some solid performances from the eight-year-old during his career, with the latest effort coming at Ascot over three miles.

This is definitely an each-way betting race and Forward Plan has been rock solid so far this season, recording fourth and third-placed finishes. The nine-year-old was last seen running well at Doncaster which bodes well for this race, with the runner hitting the frame out of fourteen runners at odds of 11/2.

Frero Banbou is a ten-year-old with plenty of experience, with Venetia Williams training a horse who was second out of eleven runners at Kempton Park in his previous showing. This came after a victory at Newcastle in late November, with the horse producing a solid seasonal debut when finishing sixth out of fifteen at Aintree.

Tightenourbelts was able to record back to back successes leading into this race, with the eight-year-old having landed the spoils at Ludlow in December before a success was recorded at Exeter the previous month. Apple Away could also be worth considering after some promising performances for Emma Lavelle.

Victtorino has enjoyed the winning habit this season and will be bidding for a third consecutive victory at Doncaster Racecourse at the end of January. Venetia Williams trains a runner who has definite signs of progression at the age of six, with the horse landing back-to-back wins this season and we can see how this will be a popular each-way betting selection.

There was a December win at Ascot where the horse was able to land a victory in the Howden Silver Cup Handicap Chase, while that came after a more surprise win in the Gold Cup Handicap Chase at the same track at the beginning of November. However, trainer Gavin Cromwell could have a viable opponent in the form of Yeah Man.

The seven-year-old is yet to win this season although there have been two runner-up performances either side of the horse falling, with the horse having less than a length to find on Victtorino after previously falling at Ascot. There was also a second-placed finish in a Handicap Chase at Down Royal in a field of twelve runners.

Famous Bridge was able to score successive wins for trainer Nicky Richards earlier this season and both of these victories came at Haydock Park. The horse should be suited to the trip over three miles at Doncaster, with the runner landing wins at Wetherby earlier this year when racking up a couple of wins at the Yorkshire course.
