2025 Kingmaker Novices Chase Betting Odds at Warwick racecourse

Saturday, 08 February 2025

There’s an exciting two-mile encounter taking place at Warwick Racecourse, with the Kingmaker Novices' Chase being a Grade 2 contest that will take place on 8 February. Dan Skelton’s charge L'Eau du Sud has passed every assignment with flying colours this season, with the seven-year-old having been installed as the odds-on favourite to claim the spoils.

Sir Gino has registered back to back victories, with Nicky Henderson training a five-year-old who has experienced that winning feeling on a long-term basis. Rubaud claimed successive victories before falling last time out, although the bookmakers think that the Paul Nicholls-trained charge could be a potential contender.

2025 Kingmaker Novices' Chase Tips

L'Eau du Sud is a talented runner who has racked up three successive wins this season, with the seven-year-old having won at Sandown Racecourse in early December. Sent off as the 10/11 favourite, there was a victory in the Betfair Henry VIII Novices Chase, with this coming after a success at Cheltenham Racecourse in the middle of November.

The horse claimed an eleven-length success in the Arkle Challenge Trophy, with this coming after a success at Stratford. At last year’s Cheltenham Festival, there was a second placed finish in the BetMGM County Handicap Hurdle, with the horse missing out narrowly over two miles and one furlong on heavy ground.

Sir Gino has an enviable record and the Nicky Henderson-trained runner surely has claims when it comes to this encounter. The horse was an impressive winner at Kempton Park over the festive period, with the 8/13 favourite seeing off Ballyburn in the Wayward Lad Novices’ Chase, with that coming after a success at Newcastle Racecourse.

That came in the Fighting Fifth Hurdle over two miles, with this horse more than capable of landing a win. Rubaud is a seven-year-old who has definite claims and the Paul Nicholls-trained runner fell last time out although there were previous successes at Wincanton and Kempton Park. We could see a three-way tussle to the finish line.

2023 Kingmaker Novices’ Chase Tips

Jonbon is currently trading as the favourite to win the 2023 Arkle Chase, with the horse vying for favouritism with El Fabiolo although we might see the former shorten if the runner produced an impressive performance at Warwick Racecourse. The seven-year-old has secured back to back victories this season and it’s been hard to crab his form.

It was nearly a year ago when Jonbon was a distant second to Constitution Hill in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle although the horse won a Novices’ Hurdle at Aintree Racecourse before opening up his chasing career with a win at Warwick. This was followed up by a win in the Close Brothers Henry VIII Novices' Chase.

However, there are some other quality horses in the field which could give Jonbon something to think about. Tommy’s Oscar is capable of running a big race ahead of Cheltenham and there was a nice Novices’ Chase victory at Doncaster Racecourse, with favourite Boothill beaten into second place.

Haddex Des Obeaux has been able to win his past two races and could be capable of improving on a performance which saw the runner claim the spoils by nineteen lengths. That was on heavy ground over two miles and we think that this horse is the each-way betting value. A win at Doncaster Racecourse over the festive season.
