2024 Vincent OBrien National Stakes Betting Odds at Curragh racecourse

Sunday, 15 September 2024

There’s a big prize pot for this race at The Curragh, with Henri Matisse having claimed three consecutive wins and the bookies have the two-year-old at odds-on to land a victory. Aidan O’Brien’s charge has been impressive so far, although there could be some stern challenges coming from the likes of Aomori City.

The Charlie Appleby-trained runner has notched two wins and could go well over seven furlongs, with Cowardofthecounty having been in the winners enclosure on two occasions this term. Hill Road and Loch Tay were both victorious last time out, with as many as ten runners lining up for this Group 1 encounter.

2024 Vincent O’Brien National Stakes Tips

Henri Matisse is bidding for a fourth consecutive victory when he lines up in the Vincent O’Brien National Stakes on Sunday, with the latest success coming at the Curragh at the end of August. That was in the Group 2 Futurity Stakes, with that following a stunning triumph in the GAIN Railway Stakes when obliging by half a length over six furlongs.

The favourite for this race opened his account with a victory at the Curragh in late May when obliging at odds of 11/8 in a maiden race and it’s hard to oppose a runner who will be facing a maximum of nine other horses. Aomori City has two wins to his name this term and the Charlie Appleby-trained charge has solid credentials for a two-year-old.

The horse does hold multiple entries although may be routed to line up in this encounter, with the latest success coming at Goodwood at the end of July. That was a success as a 2/1 favourite in the Vintage Stakes, with a success coming by nearly two lengths. That was over seven furlongs and there could be a repeat victory here.

Cowardofthecounty has claimed two wins in his short career thus far, with Joseph O’Brien landing a victory at Deauville in August when running in the Prix Francois Boutin. There was also a solid seventh-placed finish in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot and this horse could represent decent value from an each-way point-of-view.
