Gordon Stakes Results at Goodwood — 31 July 2025

Thursday, 31 July 2025

We’re excited to see which Aidan O’Brien-trained performer produces the goods over one mile and four furlongs, with Adelaide River and Espionage the two horses that head the betting market. Lion’s Pride could be the pick of the remainder, with John & Thady Gosden saddling a runner who could be a popular selection and is ridden by Frankie Dettori.

Artistic Star was successful this season for trainer Ralph Beckett and is also among the favourites, with ten runners going to post for this middle distance encounter. Bold Act and Canberra Legend are not there to make up the numbers although Chesspiece could be a more attractive each-way selection and there have been two wins this season.

2023 Gordon Stakes Tips

Adelaide River has been out of the winners’ enclosure this season although perhaps the horse will land the spoils when it comes to this clash on Day Three of Glorious Goodwood. The horse was second at Longchamp last time out when losing by one length in the Grand Prix de Paris and surely a repeat performance will see the horse go close.

The big performance came the race before when being sent off at odds of 33/1 in the Irish Derby before losing to odds-on favourite Auguste Rodin, with the horse improving after an eighth-placed finish in the English Derby. However, Espionage could be capable of beating a stablemate and the latest victory came at Roscommon.

Sent off as the 11/10 favourite over one mile, three and a half furlongs, this success came after a lengthy break from the course, although there’s more of a question mark over the latter. Lion’s Pride is trained by John & Thady Gosden and both victories this season have come on the all-weather at Newcastle and Kempton.

Artistic Star runs for trainer Ralph Beckett and there was a win at Sandown Park in May before a seventh placed showing in the Epsom Derby. Interestingly, the horse was ahead of Adelaide River on that occasion, with the latest showing seeing the charge finish third out of six horses when it came to the King Edward VII Stakes.
