2024 Graduation Chase Betting Odds at Haydock Park racecourse

Saturday, 23 November 2024

Grey Dawning has been backed into favouritism when it comes to this long-distance race at Haydock Park Racecourse, with the six-year-old running for trainer Dan Skelton this weekend. Having finished third last time out, the bookies have installed the horse as the market leader, with Gaillard Du Mesnil coming next in the betting although this runner is carrying more weight.

The seven-year-old ran well for trainer Willie Mullins last year and should be capable of performing well over the trip, with Cheddleton carrying the same weight. This is another runner who has had the benefit of a recent run, with Scipion trading at a similar price and there could be more to come from the Stuart Coltherd-trained runner.

2023 Graduation Chase Tips

Five of the seven runners lining up in the Betfair Exchange Graduation Chase are trading at single figure betting odds, with the majority of the field in with a chance of securing a victory over two miles, five and a half furlongs. Grey Dawning is the runner who apparently boast the strongest credentials, with the six-year-old having enjoyed a string of wins last season.

The horse recently put on a decent showing at Exeter Racecourse when finishing third in the Silver Bowl Novices Chase over three miles, with the runner having collected wins at Warwick, Kempton Park and Exeter last season. However, there could be a stiff competitor in the form of Gaillard du Mesnil who has strong credentials.

The seven-year-old was last seen finishing third in the Aintree Grand National and that came after a victory at the Cheltenham Festival. It was an impressive showing in the National Hunt Challenge Cup when obliging as the 10/11 favourite. You would have to argue that the Willie Mullins-trained runner is a better bet than the market leader.

Cheddleton and Scipion come next in the betting market, with the former recently finishing fourth in a nine-runner race at Carlisle, with Scipion a year younger and certainly capable based on recent showings. There was a fourth-placed finish at Perth which came after some bright performances last term, with Apple Away next in the betting market.
