2024 Matron Stakes Betting Odds at Leopardstown racecourse

Saturday, 14 September 2024

There are several horses trading at single figure betting odds to win the Matron Stakes, with Porta Fortuna set to go off as betting favourite for this one mile encounter. The Donnacha O’Brien-trained runner has secured back-to-back victories and could be vying with Fallen Angel for favoritism, with Karl Burke’s charge having landed a win last time out.

Opera Singer has been steadily improving this season and could be a solid contender for this race, with Elmalka running for Roger Varian and she’s also been in the winners’ enclosure this term. There could be more to come from Nashwa despite a disappointing outing on her seasonal debut when finishing in ninth place.

2024 Matron Stakes Tips

Porta Fortuna is a talented three-year-old who was able to oblige at Newmarket in July last time out, with Ryan Moore riding her to success in the Group 1 Falmouth Stakes, with that victory being achieved by nearly four lengths. This came after a success in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot, with the horse finishing second in the 1,000 Guineas.

Fallen Angel was a winner last time out when obliging at the Curragh, with the 11/4 shot winning the Irish 1,000 Guineas and it was a sizeable three lengths that separated her from the chasing pack. However, the horse was previously only eighth in the 1,000 Guineas and there could be more value from backing some bigger-priced alternatives.

Opera Singer has the potential to go well for Aidan O’Brien and the three-year-old was successful at Goodwood in early August, with the horse performing well in the Nassau Stakes. There was everything to like about this performance over a mile and two furlongs, with the horse previously running well in the Coronation Stakes.

Elmalka was the winner of the 1,000 Guineas when the 28/1 shot stunned everyone by landing the spoils at Newmarket, although the horse could finish no better than fourth in the Coronation Stakes. There was a similar outcome in the Nassau Stakes, with Nashwa trading at a similar price although it’s been a while since the horse last won.

2022 Matron Stakes Betting Tips

Homeless Songs didn’t look like a Group 1 contender last autumn. The horse was sent off as a 9/4 shot in the Moyglare Stud Stakes before a fifth-placed finish over one furlong and she was given another chance by the punters when being backed as the 6/4 favourite only to finish sixth in a Group 3 encounter at Leopardstown.

However, the horse returned to the same Irish racecourse after a break of half a year and there was a one-length win at the beginning of April over seven furlongs on good ground. The win in the Tattersalls Irish 1,000 Guineas was all the more impressive when obliging by five-and-a-half lengths.

Inspiral has two wins and one runner-up spot after a big break and the three-year-old was able to get home as a 15/8 favourite in the 2022 Coronation Stakes. There was lots to be impressed about her turn of foot, with the horse then chinned in the Falmouth Stakes as a 1/7 favourite.

There was a stunning win in the Prix du Haras de Fresnay-le-Buffard Jacques le Marois where Frankie Dettori ensured that the horse was kept on well. Other horses that need to be respected include Saffron Beach and Jane Chapple-Hyam will have the four-year-old well schooled for this challenge.
