2026 Derby Trial Stakes Betting Tips
There are six horses trading at single figure betting odds when it comes to the William Hill Lingfield Derby Trial Stakes. Run over one mile, three and a half furlongs, Maho Bay sets a high standard for this race. Charlie Appleby saw his horse win on a debut at Kempton in December, with this being followed by a success at Newmarket in April.
Italy is an experienced contender who should go well for Aidan O'Brien, with the latest effort being a fourth-placed finish out of nine runners at Leopardstown. That was over one mile and two furlongs, with that marking an improvement after finishing second last at Newmarket back in October, so further progress can be made here.
Action was fourth on a seasonal reappearance and he's another Aidan O'Brien-trained charge who can't be easily dismissed. The big question is whether punters are willing to trust a runner who was sent off as 4/6 favourite for the above race. There was previously a much stronger effort at Doncaster when finishing second in the Futurity Stakes.
Maltese Cross has racked up a couple of victories and William Haggas will have his sights set on the Derby from here on in. The trainer saw the horse win as the 7/4 favourite at Newbury over one mile and two furlongs. That came after a September success at Newmarket where the 13/8 shot was able to oblige over a mile.

Military Order is a horse that is bidding to land a third consecutive win, with the horse running in the Darley Novice Stakes last time out and managing to oblige at odds of even money. That was against four other runners, with the horse landing the spoils at odds-on when running in a Novice Stakes over one mile at Newmarket in the previous encounter.
Circle Of Fire runs for jockey Richard Kingscote and this runs in the royal colours, with the hope that the King-owned runner is able to impress and line up as a main Derby contender, with second place occurring at Newmarket in early May when finishing two lengths behind Castle Way when the horse was last seen at a course.
Bertinelli was second last time out and the three-year-old could potentially go one better over one mile and four furlongs at Lingfield Racecourse on the all-weather track. That was a runner-up performance at Cork and the 2/1 favourite was narrowly beaten by Alder, with the horse leading two furlongs out but unable to stay the pace against the leader.
Ndaawi was able to secure back to back wins as a two-year-old, with victories coming at Goodwood and Epsom. The first of these was a Maiden Stakes win and then came a Conditions Stakes victory in the latter. We wouldn’t be surprised if the horse is in the final shake-up and this will be a race where stamina levels are severely tested.
