2026 Silver Arrow Handicap Betting Odds at Musselburgh racecourse

Saturday, 04 April 2026

There are several horses trading at single figure betting odds, with the horses competing over seven furlongs when it comes to the Silver Arrow Handicap. Linwood runs for Richard Hannon and the four-year-old won his previous encounter. Midnight Gun is a slightly older adversary although there are also a couple of nine-year-olds whose experience could come to the fore.

Gweedore will be sent out with confidence that a bold run can be achieved over seven furlongs, with the Katie Scott-trained runner in the winners' enclosure last time out. Persuasion might come on for a seasonal debut, with Goldmoyne a fascinating contender who has racked up a string of all-weather successes leading into this race.

2026 Silver Arrow Handicap Betting Tips

Linwood has not been seen at a racecourse since the beginning of November. On that occasion, the horse was able to score at Newmarket when fending off ten other rivals. There was plenty to like about a five and a half length success in the German Oaks Handicap and this came after finishing fifth in a handicap race over seven furlongs at Newbury.

Midnight Gun runs for Hamad Al Jehani and the five-year-old was fourth at Saint-Cloud in November. It was a solid effort in a competitive Prix Tantieme, with the horse dealing well with the heavy ground. This came after a runner-up spot at Doncaster, with just a nose separating the horse from favourite Rogue Diplomat over seven furlongs.

Then there's Gweedore who runs for Katie Scott and the horse returns to the scene of his previous triumph in November. Over seven furlongs, the 9/4 favourite was able to score in a handicap race although the nine-year-old was well down the order in the same Doncaster encounter as Midnight Gun. There had previously been a solid outing at York in the Coral Sprint Trophy Handicap.

Persuasion could be a viable contender, with this being another nine-year-old and he could go well for Nicola and David Barron. There needs to be improvement after finishing second last on the all-weather at Newcastle, with the runner perhaps forgiven considering it was a competitive heat. The same applied to a Leicester effort previously when sent off at big odds.

2025 Silver Arrow Handicap Tips

There’s a seven-furlong encounter at Musselburgh in the form of the Silver Arrow Handicap on Saturday. This is the second race on the card at the Scottish racetrack, with Waleefy potentially going off as favourite to win. The four-year-old looks favourably weighted and the horse finished third out of six runners at Ascot.

Alzahir was able to score in his previous two showings, with Jennie Candlish operating a five-year-old who scored at Thirsk a few days earlier. That came after a success at Doncaster Racecourse in late March. Beating fourteen other runners was impressive and that came after having wind surgery, with the horse looking like a decent each-way selection.

Rockymountainway has plenty of ability and has been first or second in the previous four showings. The runner was able to finish runner-up at Musselburgh back in October, with this filly producing a strong effort before being beaten by a 20/1 outsider. This came after a success at Carlisle where a five-length success was achieved.

Gweedore is an interesting contender in the race. This is an older challenger who was second in a previous showing. Katie Scott saddles a runner who has previously ran well at Musselburgh and there could be more to come. Benacre was also runner-up at this Scottish course in a previous appearance and Charlie Johnston saddles this horse.

2024 Silver Arrow Handicap Tips

There are nine horses lining up in the Silver Arrow Handicap, with Poet Master regarded as the horse with the strongest chance of securing a victory. The runner has landed three victories in his short career to date, with a victory kicking things off at Musselburgh back in June before landing another triumph at Haydock in July.

After an underwhelming performance at Haydock Park, the latest success came in the Betfred City of Doncaster Handicap where the runner was able to win by nearly three lengths. However, the betting odds suggest that Gweedore and Northern Express are also lively each-way contenders.

The former is a seven-year-old who finished fourth out of ten runners on the all-weather at Newcastle Racecourse, with this coming after a third-placed finish out of twenty-two runners at York Racecourse. Northern Express will be bidding to return to the winners’ enclosure and Michael Dods trains a contender who could be an each-way bet to nothing.

Love De Vega catches the eye at a bigger price and the five-year-old boasts solid credentials, with the latest success coming at Chelmsford in February. A more recent encounter saw the horse finished midfield on the all-weather at Newcastle Racecourse. Compare the latest betting odds for this encounter and grab the value.

2023 Musselburgh Silver Arrow Handicap Tips

Adeb is a four-year-old with a potentially bright future and Richard Fahey will be hoping that the horse kicks on from a fine performance on the all-weather at Newcastle Racecourse. In the middle of February, the horse claimed the spoils when triumphing over seven furlongs and this came after finishing second in an Apprentice Handicap over six furlongs.

However, Autumn Festival is the runner that really catches the eye in the Musselburgh Silver Arrow Handicap. The four-year-old is vastly experienced and there was a solid win at Musselburgh Racecourse back in October when the horse was able to claim a one length victory. That came after winning the Old Gravel Pit Lodges Handicap, with that coming after a double at Chepstow.

Charlie Johnston has lots of runners competing in the Royal Mile Handicap and will also hope to score in the Musselburgh Silver Arrow Handicap, with The Gatekeeper among the betting favourites and there was a decent showing at Doncaster last time out. It was a competitive Pertemps Network Spring Mile Handicap where the 14/1 shot was able to perform well.

A win in early March at the all-weather track at Newcastle means that there’s plenty to like about this runner from an each-way perspective. Oisin Murphy will be on board Bling On The Music and the horse was last seen winning at Leicester Racecourse, with more to potentially come from a runner who could benefit from wind surgery.
