2024 City of York Stakes Tips
Audience has solid credentials when it comes to the City of York Stakes, with the five-year-old having won at Goodwood at the end of July. It was a superb victory by four lengths in the Group 2 Lennox Stakes over seven furlongs. There was also plenty to like about a success at Newbury in May, with the horse having run well at Ascot.
Kinross is an older adversary who could prove to be a strong challenger this time around, with the Ralph Beckett-trained runner having finished third last time out. Having been sent off as the 7/2 favourite in the Lennox Stakes, Audience proved too strong and that came after finishing eighth in the July Cup Stakes.
Lake Forest has the potential to go well at a bigger price, with the William Haggas-trained charge having finished runner-up on two occasions this season. The horse was narrowly beaten in the Hackwood Stakes at Newbury, with this coming after finishing runner-up in the Commonwealth Cup over six furlongs.
Haatem has landed two wins this season and has to be respected, with Richard Hannon saddling a runner who was able to score in the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot. That was over seven furlongs, with the horse so close to landing a victory in the Irish 2,000 Guineas over a mile when being narrowly touched off by Rosallion.

Kinross and Isaac Shelby were engaged in a close encounter in the World Pool Lennox Stakes, with the former able to claim a narrow victory by a neck. With Frankie Dettori on board, the horse travelled strongly over seven furlongs on good to soft ground. The horse was arguably always doing enough but this could be another close encounter.
Isaac Shelby was only a neck behind Kinross in the Glorious Goodwood encounter, with the horse opening the season in April with a victory. The runner then performed well when finishing second in the Emirates Poule d'Essai des Poulains and then came a credible fourth-placed finish in the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Kinross was previously third in the July Cup Stakes when finishing third over six furlongs and that came after a seventh-placed finish in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes over six furlongs. However, Al Suhail could be able to perform well at bigger odds and the Charlie Appleby-trained runner has landed two victories this term.
There were back to back wins for the Charlie Appleby-trained charge at Meydan before finishing third in the Al Quoz Sprint as the 11/4 favourite, with the horse then performing well in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at odds of 14/1. It’s worth noting that this put the runner ahead of Kinross on that occasion.
2022 City of York Stakes Betting Tips
There is going to be some interesting price movements leading into this race, with the early betting suggesting that Sacred could be the one to beat. Don’t be misled by the fact that the four-year-old has recorded two fifth-placed finishes this season considering that the first of these took place at Royal Ascot in a Group One encounter.
The horse produced a solid performance when finishing fifth in the Platinum Jubilee Stakes over six furlongs and that form continued when the runner was able to run a decent race when landing the same position in the World Pool Lennox Stakes at Glorious Goodwood, with the race being won by Sandrine.
Sandrine will line up in this race and there was plenty to like about that performance on the Sussex Downs, with the three-year-old seemingly coming to the boil after falling short in his first three outings of the flat season, with the horse keeping on well over seven furlongs and will go over the same distance at the Knavesmire.
Kinross was second in that particular race and only lost by a neck, so this horse has to enter the reckoning on this occasion. He went second in the final strides of the World Pool Lennox Stakes and we should see the Ralph Beckett-trained runner prominent in the field when this race takes place on Saturday.
