2023 Gimcrack Stakes Tips
Elite Status has been rewarding backers this season with three different wins, although the horse faces stiff competition when it comes to this encounter. The two-year-old was last successful at Deauville, with the horse winning the Prix de Cabourg and that came after a third-placed finish in the Norfolk Stakes at the 2023 Royal Ascot meeting.
Jasour has been successful on his previous two outings, with the first of these coming at Nottingham when sent off as the 8/11 in a maiden stakes race. More impressive was the performance at Newmarket where the runner outperformed odds of 16/1 to oblige in the Kingdom of Bahrain Stakes over six furlongs.
Johannes Brahms has to be respected on achievements to date and Aidan O’Brien’s horse was second in the recent Windsor Castle Stakes at Ascot over five furlongs, although it’s worth noting that the horse that won that race was Big Evs who is also set to line up in this Ebor Festival encounter.
The Michael Appleby-trained runner has since gone on to claim the spoils in the Jaeger-Lecoultre Molecomb Stakes at Glorious Goodwood, meaning that the horse could be the each-way selection here. That was a tough victory over five furlongs on soft ground, with Kylian also competing in that encounter and finishing in third place.
When it comes to historic flat horse races, there are few that are older than the Gimcrack Stakes. This is a Group 2 encounter which has its heritage from 1846, with Al Basti Equiworld having been one of the most recent sponsors. There is a substantial purse that is made available to the winning connections.
You can get the best York betting odds by comparing the different bookmakers. We will have Gimcrack betting odds and horse racing price boosts that are made available for this six furlong encounter, with this being a straight dash down the Knavesmire straight in the hope of landing victory.
The 2022 Gimcrack Stakes winner was Noble Style who pleased punters who backed the Charlie Appleby-trained charge at 3/1. He beat race favourite Marshman who traded at 9/4, while Cold Case rewarded each-way backers at 18/1 and some backers were able to get Best Odds Guaranteed on the above runners.
Trainer Richard Hannon Jnr has achieved some notable success in this race, with Threat obliging in 2019 and the same handler was in the winners’ enclosure with Lusail two years later. Owen Burrows was able to produce an excellent training performance in 2020 to score with Minzaal.
If you look through the Ebor Festival racecard, then you are able to find that the Gimcrack Stakes takes pride of place on Day Three of the meeting. This forms part of the same York racecard as the Lonsdale Cup, with extra each-way places often made available with some of the best bookmakers.
