2024 Great Voltigeur Stakes Betting Odds at York racecourse

Wednesday, 21 August 2024

Aidan O’Brien could well saddle the winner of the Great Voltigeur Stakes, with Illinois and Jan Brueghel lining up for the Irish handler. Ambiente Friendly could go well for James Fanshawe and there’s been a victory this season. The betting market suggests that an each-way bet on this encounter could be the way forward.

There are several other horses trading at single figure odds, with Matsuri having won for Roger Varian this term and he is operating at a similar price to King’s Gambit who has not been out of the front two in three outings this term. Ancient Wisdom could go well for Charlie Appleby and won last time out.

There are a stack of horses who are trading at single figure betting odds for the Great Voltigeur Stakes, with Illinois having been in the first three home in the four outings to date. Aidan O’Brien’s charge was second out of eight runners at Longchamp last time out, running well in the Grand Prix de Paris.

This came after winning at the Royal Ascot meeting, with Illinois able to score in the Queen’s Vase and this came after finishing second at Lingfield. However, that defeat came by four and a half lengths against Ambiente Friendly, with this horse certainly one for the shortlist and a high official rating to boot.

James Fanshawe saddles a horse who was last seen finishing third out of eight runners at the Curragh towards the end of June, with the runner sent off as the 6/4 favourite in the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby. Previously to this was a second placed finish in the Epsom Derby, with the runner less than three lengths behind City Of Troy.

Jan Brueghel boasts a 100% record so far and the Aidan O’Brien-trained runner has landed three successive victories thus far. There was a triumph at Goodwood in early August, with the horse beating three other contenders after consecutive wins at the Curragh. There was a success in the Dubai International Stakes after winning a maiden race.

We’ve got an exciting Group 2 encounter in the form of the Great Voltigeur Stakes, with Gregory running for John & Thady Gosden. The horse has been foot perfect this season and the three-year-old is clearly the one to beat. Having won the Darley Novice Stakes at the end of April at Haydock Park, the horse then obliged as odds-on favourite at Goodwood.

The horse then obliged in the Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot when being sent off as even money favourite in this Group 2 race, with the bookies making the horse a rock solid option although some punters might want to look elsewhere when it comes to each-way bets. Tower Of London is currently second favourite and could also go close.

The Aidan O’Brien-trained runner was sent off as the odds-on favourite in the Bahrain Trophy Stakes at Newmarket last month before getting chinned by Castle Way. Previously to this, there were wins at Leopardstown and Down Royal, although Castle Way is trading at a bigger price and potentially looks like better each-way value.

The latter runs for Charlie Appleby and that victory at Newmarket came at odds of 9/2, with that coming after a victory in the Newmarket Stakes. Adelaide River is yet to record a win in any of the four races this season, with second place in the Grand Prix de Paris and that was a positive showing in the Group One encounter.

Changingoftheguard looks like a worthy favourite when he lines up in the Sky Bet Great Voltigeur Stakes, with the three-year-old having shown some impressive performances already this season.

Having been sent off as the 11/10 favourite in the King Edward VII Stakes, he was able to oblige by a short head, with Ryan Moore succeeding on that occasion. Wayne Lordan had previously been on board when the same horse finished fifth in the Cazoo Derby although there was a win in the Chester Derby and this could be an each-way bet to nothing.

Francesco Clemente hasn’t put a foot wrong when obliging with successive wins and there was an opening season victory at Newmarket, with Frankie Dettori on board the John Gosden-trained runner in the bet365 Wood Ditton Maiden Stakes, while there was a straightforward win at Sandown Park.

Secret State is going to be another interesting contender, with this being another Royal Ascot winner and Charlie Appleby will have high hopes that this Godolphin charge can be super competitive. The runner was sent off as the 4/1 joint-favourite when winning the King George V Stakes.

Grand Alliance is a horse with bags of experience despite being a three-year-old, with Charlie Fellowes having finished second to Changingoftheguard although that defeat was only by a short head and Danny Tudhope is certainly capable of steering him to victory.
