Bet on the Durban July Handicap at the Greyville Racecourse
There are a number of Group 1 Greyville races and none come bigger than the Durban July Handicap which takes place during the month of July every year. This race can be regarded as the premier horse race in South Africa, with the Greyville odds available sometimes weeks in advance of the big race.
The purse has generally been around R4 million in recent years for this race, although the prize money was reduced in 2020, with horses competing over eleven furlongs and it has been this distance since 1970 after several previous modifications along the way.
There have been five different horses that have won this pick of the Greyville races on consecutive occasions and the most recent of these was Do It Again who obliged in 2018 and 2019. Trainer Justin Snaith was responsible for those victories and he returned in 2020 to land the spoils with Belgarion.
Enjoy Greyville Odds Through the Racing Season
In 2019, Greyville Racecourse and sister track Scottsville Racecourse formed a unique sponsorship deal which saw them partner with Hollywoodbets and the two KZN tracks are now in cahoots with the local bookmaker for South Africa.
The Gold Cup at Greyville provides another opportunity for punters to enjoy Greyville betting odds, with this being a Grade 3 thoroughbred horse race which is run over a distance of 3200 metres. This first took place in 1920 and the distance highlights that it’s for long-distance horses to compete in a true test of stamina.
