2024 Nell Gwyn Stakes Tips
Dance Sequence is a three-year-old with bright prospects and the bookies are taking no chances with their quotes when it comes to the Nell Gwyn Stakes. The horse is trained by Charlie Appleby and has recorded two wins at Newmarket already in his short career, beating five rivals on the July course before claiming a win in October.
The latest win came in the Oh So Sharp Stakes where the horse was able to oblige against favourite Skellet over seven furlongs, with more to come from a runner who dwelt at the start of that race before showing some raw speed to come through with a victory. However, punters might be looking elsewhere for value in this race.
Matrika offers a strong each-way alternative, with the runner saddled by Aidan O’Brien and there’s a return to the race track after nearly a year’s absence. The last outing saw the horse land the spoils at The Curragh when seeing off six other rivals, with the 2/5 favourite making no mistake when it came to the Airlie Stud Stakes.
Previously to this, the horse ran really well at the 2023 Royal Ascot meeting when finishing second in the Albany Stakes. There was only a length separating him from eventual winner Porta Fortuna, with this coming after an initial win at the Curragh in May. Perhaps the front two in the market are the ones who will be duelling it out here.
2023 Nell Gwyn Stakes Tips
Why is Coppice the big favourite to win the 2023 Nell Gwyn Stakes? The mare has only been seen in action once on a racecourse during her career so far, with the horse all the rage when being sent off as the 10/11 favourite. That was a striking performance from the-then two-year-old and she obliged by nearly two lengths although the horse is still something of an unknown.
Fairy Cross is more of a known quantity. As with many Godolphin horses, the runner has been seen running at Meydan and she was runner-up in the Jumeirah Fillies Guineas towards the end of February, although the horse was beaten by over eight lengths and that is why she is only trading as the second favourite to win.
There was some smart form from the same horse at Goodwood back in August when winning the William Hill Prestige Fillies’ Stakes, with the horse having also impressed at Sandown Park in the previous running. Girl Racer is next in the betting and and William Haggas’ charge was able to oblige in her only run to date.
At Wolverhampton on the all-weather, Girl Racer won over seven furlongs in a novice stakes race, with Inner Space having a similar form line and there was a victory at Kempton Park back in November in a two-year-old race, with punters advised to watch the weight of money and odds movement before placing any bets.
