This racecourse markets itself as "The Nebraska Springtime Tradition", with the track centrally located in Nebraska and just a few minutes off the Interstate 80, with the campus boasting 240 acres of land and that means that patrons can enjoy a host of leisure activities in addition to the several race meetings on the calendar.

The Race Track is a five-furlong oval and that means spectators can enjoy a good vantage point to take in every angle of the track, with live simulcasting also meaning that racegoers can enjoy punting on meetings that are not at Fonner Park.

Between late February and early May, there are live thoroughbred race meetings and you generally get ten races that take place on each card, while there are also concerts, entertainment, sports and athletic events that are hosted at a venue in Grand Island that enjoys an enormous catchment when it comes to the population of the county.

There are lots of Special Events that take place around the horse racing meetings, with the Kentucky DerbyParty allowing racegoers to bet on the card that takes place at Fonner Park before watching live video of the action from Churchill Downs when the leading three-year-olds in the country battle it out in The Race for the Roses.

The facility hosts numerous stakes races, with the most lucrative one in Nebraska, the Bosselman/Gus Fonner Stakes, running on the last Saturday of April. Fonner Park Race Track was established in 1953 by Hall County Livestock and it started off by hosting 13 race days which has gradually grown to 31.

The first ever Bosselman/Gus Fonner race was hosted in 1990 and a horse called Complicate was the inaugural winner, while the 6,000 seater Heartland Events Center now hosts a wide variety of concerts, sporting events and trade shows.

How to Bet at Fonner Park

Fans of American horse racing have been enjoying live thoroughbred action for nearly 70 years at Fonner Park, with this track based at Heartlands Events Center and there are typically 31 days of thoroughbred racing that occur between the end of February and the beginning of May.

All of the meetings occur either on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday and you can expect roughly ten races to take place through a particular card, with the Friday racing usually starting at around 3pm local time, while the Saturday and Sunday card tends to start at the earlier time of 1.30pm local time.

A typical race at Fonner Park might be run over a distance of four furlongs and that means a pretty sharp dash to the line. A good bookmaker will have the full list of runners and riders along with the weight and the age of the horse.

When it comes to placing bets on the horses, this can be done in a similar way to UK racing. That means an opportunity to either bet on a horse to win or to back it each-way and you might typically find eight or nine horses lining up for each event.
