Happy Valley Racecourse – check out the Happy Valley racecards
The Happy Valley Racecourse hosts a large number of Hong Kong horse racing meetings throughout the calendar year, with this track owned by the Hong Kong Jockey Club and this has been in operation since 1845, with over 50,000 spectators able to attend the meetings and enjoy the horse racing cards that are available.
There are only two racecourses in Hong Kong where horse race meetings take place and Happy Valley hosted its first ever race in 1846, with this track famous for hosting midweek race meetings that generally take place on a Wednesday. These evening race meets are held under the lights and they are attended by thousands of racegoers.
The International Jockeys’ Championship Takes Place Here
There are world-class jockeys who compete for the International Jockeys’ Championship every year and Frankie Dettori scored a memorable success at Happy Valley in 2011 for the Italian to land his third title.
The Shan Kwong Handicap also takes place at Happy Valley, with this being a 1600m contest although the Hong Kong International Jockeys’ Championship is the biggest event at this race track, with this Longines-sponsored event generally taking place at the end of the year.
The IJC is a competition between twelve jockeys that takes place at Happy Valley Racecourse annually, with six overseas riders competing against six native jockeys for the big prize.
